Research profile:
The research is provided by the staff of Laboratory
for Forensic Chemistry (Faculty of Chemistry, JU), which was established in
2000 as first laboratory of this branch of chemistry in Polish high schools.
The scientific interest is focused on identification and discrimination
of criminalistic traces with respect to their chemical composition as well
as on identification and determination of toxicants in biological materials.
Main objective is to develop, test
and apply to forensic practice new analytical procedures. The research is
carried out in collaboration with the Institute of Forensic Research, Cracow,
Poland.
At present three main subjects
are realized:
·
Examination of questioned documents
(regarding their authenticity and age) on the basis of identification of chemical
composition of inks and paper by means of capillary electrophoresis.
·
Comparative analytical study of psychotropic
medicines (specifically of phenotiazines and tricyclic antidepressants) in
blood and urine with the use of capillary electrophoresis and HPLC.
·
Application of atomic fluorescence
spectrometry for determination of selenium and arsenic in biological materials
(blood, urine, hair, human tissues).
The general problem of differentiation
between evidence and reference materials with the use of chemometric is under
investigation as well.
Domains of applications:
Physicochemical analysis of criminalistic traces,
forensic toxicology
